Standardized and safe surgical treatment of patients. This includes not only the surgery itself, but also all pre-surgical examinations and post-surgical care. As a university center which has had its focus area on pancreas surgery for 10 years, we have frequently and regularly performed highly complex operations. Not only the surgeons, but also our entire personnel have the necessary experience in the care of patients before, during and after surgery.

Chemotherapy and if necessary, radiation therapy according to the most recent insights and procedures.

Basic research into the biological behavior of tumor cells in various stages of growth, and after treatment with various medications, in the research laboratories of the Section for Visceral Surgery and Institute for Medical Oncology.

Nutrition problems are taken into consideration. Early recognition and treatment of deficiencies enable us to treat weight loss and general weakness at an early stage.
In certain cases of chronic pancreatitis, precise, subtle surgical procedures with the least possible amount of physical stress are performed.

Step by step treatment (care in a standard ward, monitoring unit, or intensive care unit) of acute pancreatitis patients, depending upon the gravity of the illness.

Nutrition Consultation Services
Questions concerning nutrition quite commonly arise among patients with pancreas diseases.

Chronic pancreatitis patients with chronic pain or pancreatic tumor patients can have a great number of reasons for insufficient food absorption leading to weight loss and reduced well-being.

As part of the interdisciplinary medical care, the patient’s nutrition situation is documented. It is quite common that there is more than one reason for a patient’s insufficient food absorption. An insufficient production of digestive enzymes, chronic pain, side effect of medications, or a tumor can directly influence food absorption.

Additionally, an enlarged pancreatic head can interfere with the passage of food through the duodenum leading to repeated vomiting.

The highly experienced members of our clinical nutrition team can advise our patients in all questions concerning nutrition therapy.
